In our Italian Baroque program, we reveal that 17th-century songs were the true pop hits of their time. Concert of Italian baroque music.

In an intimate setting, our listeners will discover that the themes in 17th-century Italian songs are universal and still appealing and relevant to today's audiences. The songs deal with many different sides of love, from hopeful and in love to sad or jealous. In doing so, we show that "classical music" does not have to be difficult, complicated or serious. The themes appeal to everyone, but perhaps more importantly, the music is very easy to listen to. Simple songs with beautiful melodies, which, like today's pop music, often have a verse-refrain structure. Baroque guitar and percussion give the whole a danceable twist that makes it clear: actually, music from the 17th century is not so different from our pop songs of today! Full of emotions, drama and sometimes also humor and playfulness.

This is music based on Italian baroque, but strongly influenced by indigenous South American tribes from different regions. Complemented by percussion instruments, this programme invites the listener into the exciting world of Latin American Baroque music. From love songs and drinking songs to devotions and religious processions, but never without dancing!

Our programme includes music from Spain, Bolivia and Peru.

Ensemble Suspirium treats you with a selection of Latin American baroque repertoire. Some of this is from in the Codex Trujillo. Iris Bouman sings both in Spanish and in indigenous languages in a varied programme of church music and secular repertoire.

Songs in Spanish are alternated with songs in Chiquitano and Guaraní. Completed with numerous percussion instruments, this program invites the listener into the exciting world of Latin American baroque music. From love songs and drinking songs to songs for devotion and religious processions.. but never without a groove!
