In our Italian Baroque program, we reveal that 17th-century songs were the true pop hits of their time. Heartfelt ballads blend seamlessly with fiery declarations of love, showing that the emotions captured in these pieces are just as relatable today. Intimate duets for voice and lute by Caccini are woven together with the vibrant, rhythmic energy of Frescobaldi and Sances—each piece centered, of course, on the timeless theme of love and its many trials.
